We are excited and honoured to announce that Nikki Hind has been nominated for Blind Australian of the Year for the second time.

Founder of Blind Grit, Nikki is Australia’s first legally blind fashion designer. Born legally blind in her left eye, her vision was further impacted after a stroke left her with little to no peripheral vision in her right eye.

“The Blind Australian of the year awards acknowledge and promote an equitable and inclusive Australia. They celebrate the exceptional contribution of blind Australians who, by example, inspire others to excellence by action, improve Australian community life.” - Blind Australian of the Year Website

As a company we strive to advocate for the vision impaired community, with Nikki at the forefront leading the way. Working as a consultant for Afterpay and IMG for the 2021 Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, Nikki gave a voice to the vision impaired when it came to making fashion week a more inclusive event. Disabled experts having a seat at the ‘decision making table’ has always been one of her top priorities, and something she strongly champions all companies to do.

The 2020 winner of the award was Adam Morris from NSW. Adam has devoted many years to the helpful provision of information, ongoing support and assistance to many blind and low vision Australians through his monthly telephone conferences providing up to date information on new products, together with updates on service provision.

Thank you to Link Vision and all of their sponsors for continuing to highlight the amazing efforts of those in the vision impaired community.
